A telecommunications professional with an avid interest in history, Jason Wilton Wetzel received a bachelor of science in history from Towson University and a master of arts in education and history from Georgia State University. For more than two decades, Jason Wilton Wetzel held a sales and marketing position with AT&T.

Prior to his retirement in 2016, Mr. Wetzel served as deputy director and executive officer for the Office of Army Reserve History at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In addition to researching and writing about Army history, he handled community outreach and living history programs. A certified Army instructor for military history detachments, he has written several books about American POW camps during World War II.

Mr. Wetzel spent four years as director of character education for the Georgia Department of Education, introducing character education to more than 1,800 schools across the state. He also spent time as the associate director of character education for the Georgia Humanities Council. A member of a number of historical organizations, Mr. Wetzel belongs to the Sons of the American Revolution.
